My name is Shiketa Morgan and I am the Founder of the Child Care Business Owner Institute and the Executive Director of Learning Days Child Care Centers.
I created this blog to share childcare resources with other childcare business owners, to empower you to build a successful Child Care Business and to inspire you to keep growing.
I quit my job as a Registered Medical Assistant to start a home daycare in December 1998 with only $600. I was tired of my paycheck being the same every two weeks and I wanted to stay home with my children. I really enjoyed working from home and helping other moms by providing a safe home environment for young children.
In June 1999, my home day was licensed by the State of Missouri and I was so excited that my business was thriving. The only problem that I faced was a lack of early childhood knowledge and experience. My lack of knowledge and experience was affecting how I ran my program.
So, in 2001, I decided to enroll in the local community college (Child Care Field Base Program) to take some early childhood classes. The classes were taken in the comfort of my home and the instructor came to me. That was one of the best decisions I could have ever made. When I furthered my knowledge, my creativity expanded, my home day received NAFCC accreditation, the parents loved my program and my business took over the house!
The knowledge that I obtained in School encouraged me to turn my home into a preschool. In fact, we moved into the basement so that the childcare program would have more room for the kids. My family spaces was beginning to get smaller and this forced me to move the business out of my home.
I opened my first Childcare Center in 2003 and continued my early childhood education. There were major differences in operating a home daycare versus a child care center. In a home day care I worked alone or with at least one assistant. In my first childcare center, I was introduced to managing a team, provided care for more children, there were more parents and more visitors in my business. This meant I needed to grow as a business owner and develop my Leadership abilities!
As I began to grow as a Leader, my business began to blossom. In 2007 I went back to school and completed my Business Degree. That business degree empowered me to think even bigger and I was ready to grow again!
My staff turn-over was lower, I was more confident as a business owner and I developed a passion for teaching others, which inspired me to coach and become an author.
I currently oversee two Child Care Centers in St. Louis and in Atlanta with the help of a dynamic team. Most of all, as the business grew, my husband and I decided to run the business together and it feels great to not do it all on my own anymore.
The wisdom that I am gaining from operating a Child Care Business, is shared on a weekly basis with my Coaching Clients and with my Blog followers.
So be sure to browse recent blog post, eBooks’, digital resources and coaching options that are available to you on this site and keep building a Quality Successful Child Care Business!

Good Morning! I just wanted to say that I just found your site yesterday and I am extremely happy that I did. I have been praying for awhile now asking God which direction should I go. Should I expand from my home daycare to a center or not. I’ve been discouraged on several occasions but after finding this site I feel empowered to do so. My faith has been strengthened in just a matter of minutes because I feel you are so relatable. Thank you so very much for the information you are providing, for being a vessel of the Lord! I will be glued to this site in every way I can!

Hello Shiketa,
I was trying to download the parent handbook and I’m unable to get in. Do I have to have a log in for Scribd in order to access all the forms that you have available?
Thanks,
