What My Latest Expansion Taught Me

On August 16, 2021, my husband and I expanded our Child Care Business into Atlanta Georgia. If I can be honest, this expansion stretched my faith. It was the scariest business move that I had ever made and the best move that I could have ever made.

God has ordered our steps to a growing city, my Husband and I have met some amazing people, the vision of the business has been embraced, and the opportunities have been unlimited.

In fact, we’ve been in business for over 27 years, however the past five years has felt like a brand-new exciting Journey and the best is yet to come.

Before this expansion, we expanded four times in our hometown, however, expanding across state lines was different and I want to share with you today five vital details that my latest expansion taught me.

  1. If you feel the need to expand, do your research on the city where you want to expand and follow your gut.
  2. Write the vision for your expansion, because once you write the vision, you activate the plan.
  3. Stay Open minded, because you will have many deals to fall through, but there is only one deal for you.
  4. The systems that work where you are now, may no longer be effective where you are going.
  5. Your next expansion will require a different version of you, keep investing in yourself as a leader. Keep reading new books and learning new leadership skills.

Most of all, this expansion has taught me that it is important to come out of your comfort zone, because great things happen outside of your comfort zone!

    Is It Your Dream to Go Bigger?

    On November 28, 2014, I moved out of my first childcare center. When I look at the photo in this blog post, I see a woman that was excited to go to the next level. That building was my 1st childcare location and I had lots of good times in the building. Also, I had lots of moments that I care not to share in this blog post. Most important, before I moved out of that location, I was getting prepared before the opportunity presented itself.

    When the opportunity to go bigger presented itself, I almost talked myself out of going bigger, because I had a fear of having more employees and so much more. Furthermore, I was determined to not let that opportunity to go bigger pass me by. So, I did it afraid!

    Do you have a Dream to go bigger? If so, what is stopping you? Today I am going to share with you, 7 ways to get prepared before you go bigger.

    1. Connect with someone that has done what you desire to do.
    2. Develop the Leader within you.
    3. Write down your vision for your business and believe that it will manifest.
    4. Stay focused. You can do anything with a focused mind.
    5. Get a coach or a mentor. It will save you so much time and frustration with the right coach.
    6. Start Looking for a building and stay in expectation mode. Only what you expect will show up for you.
    7. When the opportunity presents itself, keep quiet and only tell your close friends and family. Announcing your opportunity, before you secure the deal is a sure way to kill the deal. Announce it when you get the keys!
