Reasons Parents Leave Child Care Businesses

Parents choose childcare businesses because they have to work or go to school. In fact, when they search for childcare, they will choose a childcare program for many reasons:

  1. Affordable rates
  2. They love what you offer
  3. The location is convenient
  4. They feel connected to you.
  5. You may stand out amongst the rest

Furthermore, I have found that when parents are unhappy, they will either bring their complaints to you or they will give a notice to leave your childcare. In some cases, they may abruptly leave.

However, I have found that a parent that complains is not necessarily going to leave, they simply want you to do something about their concerns. This is why, I welcome parent complaints, because a complaining parent is simply showing you what you need to work on.

Here are some ways to assure that you are addressing parent concerns and communicate effectively with parents to reduce family turnover:

  1. Listen to the parent when they bring a concern to you.
  2. Develop a plan to address the concern
  3. Follow up with the parent to see if He or she is happy with the improvement.
  4. Communicate staffing or policy changes in a timely manner.
  5. Thank the parent for giving you a chance to fix the issue.
  6. Talk with your families and find out how they feel about your program.

Have you recently had a family to bring a concern to you? If so, how did you address it and is the issue resolved? Please share your thoughts about this post.

7 Ways To Get Dads Involved in Your Child Care Program

Over the years, I have noticed that it is easier to get the mothers involved in my program. In fact, it seems like the dads prefer that the moms get involved. However, after holding a Donuts with Dads event at my childcare facility and watching the effect that the event had on the children, I have decided to inspire the Dads to get more involved in my facility.

Today I am going to share with you 7 ways to get the dads involved in your program:

  1. Get to know your dads by talking with them on a regular basis
  2. Ask dads for their opinion about program events or policies
  3. Invite dads to host an annual car wash to help raise funds for your program
  4. Dad love sports, so be sure to plan sports related days such as: baseball cap day, etc.
  5. Host a super bowl event for dads at your facility
  6. Ask dads to donate male related items for the dramatic play area(s)
  7. Invite the dads to come by your home or center to talk with the children about their profession

This is just a small list of ways to get the dads involved in your program. Moreover, I believe that when dads get involved in your program, that it will compel more single dads to bring their children to your program and the kids will be so proud of their dads!

Do you have any ideas on how to get dads involved? Feel free to share!
