25 Years of Building a Child Care Business

On this day, 25 years ago, I became a business owner, and I’m so grateful to see this day. When I started the business, I was simply responding to the voice of God, and the Journey has truly been a blessed one.

In fact, my business journey has taught me so much, and here are a few lessons that I’ve learned over my 25 years in business:

  1. Keep God and Family first, then Business
  1. Make Prayer a priority
  2. When you learn teach
  3. Run your business like you have an audience of one ( God)
  4. Everybody that starts with you won’t finish with you
  5. Never stop learning and read lots of books written by successful business owners.
  6. Dream Big and walk by Faith
  7. Make relaxation and healthy living a priority
  8. Always give back to the community.
  9. Stay focused on your goals and keep growing!

Empowering Your Team

I believe that if you want a successful Child Care Business and if you want quality, it is vital that you empower your teachers.

Teachers that are not empowered will require lots of correction and feedback. In fact, teachers that are not empowered may be an major situation waiting to happen.

On the other hand, teachers that are empowered, need very little supervision and they are empowered to provide Quality Care.

Let me ask you several questions?

1.Are your teachers empowered to implement quality care?

2. Do you have a system in place that Empowers your teachers?

No matter what your answers were, I want to share with you five ways to empower your teachers:

  1. Upon hiring your staff, be sure they are training by an experienced and appointed staff member.
  2. Follow up with the teacher until He or she has mastered their duties.
  3. Inspect what you expect. This could simply be a weekly observation of each teacher.
  4. Reward the behavior you want to see. This could be lunch on you, gift cards; etc.
  5. Issue resources that empower your team weekly and inspire staff to share with oneanother.
