I read an article years ago that mentioned how much playing Chess is like running a business. After playing my first game of chess on thanksiving day,I can honestly say that playing chess is truly like operating a business.

In fact, that game reminded me of how much focus it takes to run a business and the importance of thinking about every business move before you make it.

Running a Child Care Business can be like a chess board sometimes;

  • You gotta put the right people in the right places
  • If you don’t make a decision, you will be stuck
  • when you make a decision, you gotta know how that move or decision will affect the business.

Here are 5 more takeaways that I got from my 1st Game of Chess:

  1. Get you a coach who knows how to play the game. My step Dad is skilled at Chess, and he taught me well. He guided me through my moves.
  2. Focus! If you’re not focused, you’ll make the wrong moves.
  3. Think about your move before you make it and why you made and think about what happens if you make a move.
  4. Play the center of the boad and know the role of each ame piece. Don’t try to be a jack of all trades!
  5. The queen is the most powerful piece! That reminded me of the power of a woman in business.

I hope that this post has inspired you to play Chess and be mindful of your business moves.

I love this time of the year. In fact, at the end of every year for the past 25 years, I love to plan lots of fun holiday events for my team.

In fact, one of the things that I notice at this time of the year is the fact that my staff is excited to come to work, because they know I have something fun planned for them.

As I write this blog post, we are kicking off the first week of December and I have several fun events planned for the staff and the families.

Moreover, I am writing this post to share with you three team building ideas, that will most definitely boost morale and bring some excitement to your team.

  • Plan a fun Christmas Party for your team. Consider hosting a party at a local restaurant or having the party catered by a local restaurant and have the party at your facility. Be sure to do a staff gift exchange, play fun games and have lots of fun.
  • Have a Christmas door decorating contest. My staff loves this contest. They go all out, and this is the time of year, when I can truly see how creative they are! Have a parent to judge the doors and give the winner a prize such as a gift basket, gift card, etc.
  • Invite the staff to wear a Holiday related t-shirt or sweater every Friday during the holidays and take lots of photos to show off your team spirit on social media.

Thats just of few of my ideas and I don’t want to overwhelm you with too many ideas. So, what do you think about the ideas above? How do you plan to make this holiday season an exciting time for your staff?
